EPILEPSY AND VACCINATIONS IN DOGS

Unfortunately, there is a great deal of misinformation regarding many topics on the internet and the myth that vaccinations may trigger seizures or epilepsy is one of them.

Can vaccinations trigger epilepsy?

There is no scientific evidence of any link between vaccinations and epilepsy. Epilepsy is not a side effect of vaccines.

Remember not to believe everything you hear or read, and consider whether the information is based on real scientific fact. If you suspect a side effect, please contact your vet.

Is there any risk when vaccinating an epileptic dog?

With any vaccination there is always a risk of a side effect, such as swelling or pain at the site of injection. More severe side effects are extremely rare. Epileptic dogs are at no greater risk of experiencing a side effect of a vaccination than non-epileptic dogs, so given the numerous benefits of vaccination (prevention of life-threatening diseases) it is still recommended to administer them.

If you have any questions or doubts about any treatment, including vaccines, please talk to your vet.
